This clip shows a hands-on practical training drill of a mine rescue team.  It is taken from a longer film from the US Bureau of Mines showing a variety of activities at a regional or national mine-safety gathering around 1918.  The first national mine-safety demonstration was held at Forbes field, in Pittsburgh, on October 30, 1911.  The demonstration was planned and managed by engineers of the US Bureau of Mines, with the aid of miners and coal operators of the Pittsburgh district.  Approximately 15,000 persons attended the demonstration.
