Traditionally Heat Stress has been measured by several indexes which look at the environment, the miners activity level and their clothing and then estimate the effect on the body. These indexes are fairly complicated to use accurately and are not well suited to dynamic or changing conditions and activities.

The technology we are using looks directly at the miner’s reaction to their environment. This look at the body’s physical reaction can be used in a newer index developed by the military to evaluate a person’s fitness for duty called Physiological Strain Index or PSI
