Here are shown the PSI’s of the three mine rescuers we have been looking at. The lightning bolts indicate where that person crossed 101.5 º F core.
The red line, at a PSI value of 6, indicates a threshold that would have given between 5 and 10 minutes advanced warning of the need to cool the two who went over 101.5ºF while not giving a false warning for the person who handled the heat well.
We will be looking for ways to measure and monitor team members to see if the PSI can be used as a team monitoring tool. Because the sensor pill is not practical for other than research uses, we will also be investigating using heart rate alone as means to estimate condition.
