This is a example of a high exposure job at Barrick. Temperatures were in excess of 115 º F for brief periods and 103 º F for up to 20 minutes.
The peaks in core temperature correspond to installation of vent pipes or bags. The miner did not drink water during the process of hanging the vent bag/pipe but usually did in between pipes.
The cooling effect of rest and hydration are obvious. Using this chart and a record of the miner’s activities we are able to identify specific sources of heat and will be trying interventions to cool the parts of the job which are causing the peak heat loads.
