Game Instructions

Computer Setup

This game uses frames, if your browser doesn't support these, you're not only out of luck, you're living in the dark ages.

For best results, set the screen resolution on your computer to 1024 x 768. The game will work at lower resolutions, however screen elements may not display as intended.

It is recommended that you copy the files from the CD to your computer's hard disk. The varying speeds of CD drives may produce an uneven transition of the various game elements. When copying these files, be sure to locate them in the root directory (e.g. C, D, etc.). DO NOT copy them to a sub-directory as this will affect the linking that is built in to the game.

Reminder: Files copied from a CD are read-only. If you intend to alter the questions and answers, you will need to disable this from Windows Explorer (Highlight the game folder and click File - Properties).

Establishing Teams and Time Limit

The game is capable of providing competitive play for TWO teams. Dividing the classroom in half (left and right) is recommended for ease in scoring. More about scoring play will be discussed later. The time limit you select is your choice, however, 30 minutes seems reasonable.

Starting the Game

From the CD: Insert the CD into the drive and wait for the game to automatically open in your browser.

From the Hard Disk: In the "DLC" folder, find and double-click on the file named "index.html". The game will open in your browser.

After the game opens, change the View to "Full Screen" for optimal viewing.

How the Game Works

There are 6 portions of the game screen that need to be discussed. They are the left and right score displays and the 4 major quadrants labeled A-D of the game display as shown in Figure 1.

Figure 1

Quad A: - Here you will find the categories of the game questions. There are 13 pages showing 6 different categories which automatically cycle 1 page every 15 seconds. This provides 78 different questions. When play begins, click on the category selected to display the question in Quad B.

Quad B: - The question will appear here. This is the only screen that will remain fixed. Following sufficient time to read the question and wait for a response, you'll need to click on the "question mark" to display the answer.

Figure 2

The answer screen (Figure 3) will display for 10 seconds before returning to a black screen. In this period you'll need to advance the game by clicking on the "Eagle".

Caution: Avoid using the back button as this may produce adverse affects in game play.

Figure 3

Quad C: As shown in Figure 4 below, the celebrities will appear here. Players are given 15 seconds to name the celebrity and tell whether they are alive or dead and whether they are Canadian or not Canadian. There is a timer provided in the upper-right of this quad counting down from 15 to 0. It is important that the moderator clicks on the photo prior to this screen turning black. Again, you want to avoid using the "Back" button.

Figure 4

Quad D: - This quad will display the name and status of the celebrity. This screen will appear for 8 seconds before returning to black allowing sufficient time to announce what is displayed.

Scoring

The point values you assign to the questions and the proper identification of the celebrities is up to you. The "+" and "-" signs under each of the score displays will add or subtract 10 points with each click of the mouse.

For the sake of simplicity, I suggest this 10 point value for the questions as well as the celebrities. Further, I suggest you deduct this amount for each incorrect response.

There are several "50 point bonus" questions. It was my intention that this amount be applied only to correct response to the question. Naturally, an incorrect response of a bonus question would only yield a deduction of 10 points.

Things to Avoid

  • Spitting into the wind
  • Tugging on Superman's cape
  • Pulling on the mask of the Lone Ranger
and most importantly . . .

DON'T USE THE BACK BUTTON OR REFRESH THE SCREEN !!
