Taken from an e-mail received from Robert T.Gibney

I have been researching the life and music of the hardrock miners who worked in Arizona from 1870 - 1920.  I am finding many common trends that appear in the current news reports about: mine worker safety, mine owner negligence, general working conditions, etc.  My studies have inspired me to write songs based on the experiences of the hardrock miners.

Here is a link to my most recent song: Ballad of the Hardrock Miner:
http://crownkinghiker.blogspot.com/2011/06/ballad-of-hard-rock-miner-new.html

This song would be appropriate for the United States Mine Rescue Association.  The lyrics are based on Frank Crampton's book "Deep Enough", in which he tells of his experiences working in the western mining camps of the early 20th century.  "Men are cheaper than timber" is the title of one of his chapters.  The lyrics express the unique combination of ever-present danger with the spirit of freedom and pride that continues to motivate miners today.

I include historic maps and photos to enhance the stories and to encourage listeners to learn more about the men who worked in the mines.

I hope that you enjoy the song.
